well arrived at the lake at about 11am friday morning and had the boat in the water by noon.. we headed out to a a few coves and caught about 16 bluegill and a couple 2-3 pound channel cats all on nightcrawlers.. we also headed out at night and my buddy pulled in an 8 pound flathead cat on beef liver and we caught 4 more between the 3 and 5 pound mark it seems like all the fish are biting on nightcrawlers and beef liver. all in all it was a great trip.. thanks guys and good fishing to you all

My first time at Patagonia. Got there at 8 am, fished a couple of coves to the West of the boat launch area. Not the easiest hike as there are steep banks with loose dirt and cattle trails (and a bull that really didn't bother me). Caught a couple of small bass and a nice sunfish. It's $10.00/vehicle for day use - and definitely easier to get around with a boat.

Second weekend fishing at Patagonia, Great fishing. Arrived at lake around 6:30 am, bait store was closed. Catfished until 8 a.m. when the store opened (few nibbles, but nothing), around 8:15 the worms showed up and it was on.. my three children caught about 10-15 Perch, blue-gill each. Some were large enough for the frying pay. Daughter caught a nice Crappie, really surprised me. Kids absolutely love fishing at patagonia. Saw many other kids bank fishing and catching fish. Around 10:30, an angler in a pontoon boat entered marina with a 29 1/2 lbs catfish tied to the side of his boat. Hooked it in approx 35' open water near west small island (8 lb test), fought it for an hour by following it around lake. Recommend this lake to everyone.

Took a trip to patigonia from phoenix since there are no more good lakes in the phx. area that are worthwhile. Our Son caught 20 bluegill on which was 12" which we released to have a replica mount done later. I caught a 6 lb 6 oz bass and 6 more 1 to 3 lbs. on live waterdogs I purchased in phoenix. You have a great lake compared to us here in central Arizona

Went to the lake and rented a boat with the electric trolling motor. Pulled into the second cove on the left side of the lake and caught 40 bluegill with millworms and nightcrawlers. Cant wait to go back. There wasn't a lot of boat traffic either and the boat rental was only a Hundred Dollars for the whole day. I recommend this lake to anyone near patagonia

The lake is full and going over the spillway, but really muddy and full of debris. On Monday 7/31 there was a lot of pretty large stuff all over, but moving toward the spillway. Several boaters were hooking on to the large stuff and pulling it off to the shoreline.

My family and I were at the lake for 4 days, we had a great time, it was quiet, and relaxing. we caught alot of catfish, ( we catch and release) the weather ws nice, and we were happy that the rangers were there to keep the riff raff away, they were very nice to us. our camp site was clean, ( even though the cows came through) and the out house was clean. we all caught alot of fish, and over all had a great time, we go every summer about every week end. and will continue, we have been going for so long, we see where the money goes to. I remember when there wasnt any bathrooms, and now they have showers and places for hair driers, no complaints from me or my family. Try it, youll love it.

Fishing was good for sun, catfish and crappie .Bass how ever must have taken to sun bathing. (Here comes the fish story) the largest bass I have ever seen was laying 10 inches blow water level at the point across from the marina .I pulled the boat almost on top of him and he wouldn’t move .I tossed everything I had at him and nothing. After about 10 of this I gave up .This happened several more times with smaller bass in coves .A guy at the marina said he experienced the same thing so he tossed a net over one ,not sure that was cricket of him but it weight in around 5 LBS. Has anyone ever seen this behavior in bass before? I have fished this lake for 20 + years and never seen this .Well enough of this ,Have a great fishing trip to all.

NOTE: the raccoons and skunks raided our camp every night ,and the lake has large clumps of algae floating around .

Went fishing for a couple of days 5/11 and 5/12/07 and caught lots of croppie, sunfish , and blue gill. Great size ones at that. Had a great time. I still think the whole lake should be a no wake zone. The open part is to small and the speed boats go around in circles just making waves. They need to go to the big lakes if they feel the need for speed. I have my own boat, and preferr to go slow and enjoy the lake as a fisherwoman. The camp ground is great and ment more for families and quiet campers and not for Partys. I love it there. I only wish they would put in more electric sites, because the full hookups go fast, and it is hot there in the summer.

patagonia lake is the worst lake to go too. the marina lies about their prices on there boats, they will tell you 20.00 for the day and they charge you for each hour. the fishing sucks only caught 2 sunfish. the rangers are rude, and they let gang bangers in the park. the water is green and slimy, the beach was trashed and the bathrooms are very disgusting and have no toilet paper. there are guys that hang out in the womens bathrooms at night. they lie about camping prices they will tell u over the internet that it is ten dollars per vehicle for tent camping and will actually be 15 anight. the store has really high prices. the whole weekend was cold and windy.this was the worst camping experience we ever had.

I had fun swimming, and camping, but over the weekend, it felt as though I were in a trailer park. Prices at the market are very high. The park charges $15 a night to camp instead of $10, to rent boats are expensive, so if you go, have lots of money. For a 4 seater paddle boat there is a $50 deposit to rent it, that they "hold" and it is $20 an hour to rent. My 8 yr old son caught 2 sun fish, my husband and I caught none. There were no game and fish around, people were going to fast in their boats, especially in the no wake area. the beach was crowded. Tried to row in a raft, but the winds and the wake were to high, ended up getting stuck and having to swim back to the beach. Water was a little cold, but other than that, it was ok after getting used to it.

I have fished the lake every weekend from April till now.The winds have been tasking on the fishing.but the water temp is up to 64 deg and the bass are on the beds.Caught 5-3+lbs bass and 20 hand size sun fish.all released back.used crayfish and pulled them across the nests, sun fish on worms and bobbers 2 feet down close to the weeds.still havent seen crappie yet, maybe this week end.Note: be on your guard while on the lake, fish and game are no place tobe found and some are taking advantage of this, boats going 15 to 20 in the no wake areas ,boats cutting of coneos and we had to pull a lady out of the water due to wake rollover.be carefull and have a great fishing trip.

We left Patagonia on 2-25-07 with my sister finishing with 2 more baby catfish and I caught a decent trout. Not good fishing. Tryed worm, hotdog, and liver with only the worms producing fish.  My wife and I spent xmas week camping in our motorhome at Patagonia. I fished at least once each day, and overall did quite well in the marina arm. Other than 1 short bass, my catch consisted of bluegill, found along the cattails. All were caught on "Liberace" and black Lite-Brite leeches, local patterns available at Tightlines in Tucson. The males were unusually colorful for this time of year, and were about hand sized. All fish were released.

Got out to the lake and had lines in the water by 7 AM. Caught 3 crappie early in the morning. Each weighed 1.5-2.5 lbs. Used french bread on a size 6 hook and had 2 catfish in 15 minutes before we ran out of bread. Young ones, maybe a couple of lbs. Sunfish were biting good on treble hooks with nightcrawlers throughout the day. Caught 22 bluegill in 3 hours. Most ranged in size from 6-8 inches. Too many young fish but we'll try again this weekend. Will give update soon.

Received a large amount of debris loading due to a recent rainfall event. There was a 2- to 3-inch thick mat in many coves as well as floating logs. Watercraft operators should exercise caution the rest of the summer. The detritus layer is sinking but is still prevalent in all coves. Watch your water output from your motor to make sure it isn’t clogged. Bass fishing is fair to good. Catfish anglers are doing well on smaller channels and some respectable flatheads are being caught also. Bluegill and red-ear are still are providing fun for the young folks using small hooks with pieces of worm. The average size is pretty small.  Bass fishing is fair. Patagonia Lake is down about 3 feet and boaters need to be careful of rocks near the surface. The obstructions are marked but they may extend well away from where the buoys are. Failure to be cognizant could cause major damage to the hull or motor. Fishing has been fairly slow with few bass being caught recently. Channel catfish are still being caught on worms, liver and stink baits. A few flathead catfish are being caught at night using bluegills as bait. Kids are still catching good numbers of bluegill and redear but they average pretty small in size.  Bass fishing is fair. Some bass are reportedly being caught along the shoreline and at the mouth of Ash Canyon Cove. Try Rooster Tails, or crankbaits and work along structures or over weed beds. Pumpkin seed colored tubes, spinnerbaits and Texas- and Carolina-rigged plastic worms work well along the reeds and banks. Channel catfish are being caught on dough balls, shrimp, chicken livers, and worms. Flathead catfish are being caught using live bluegills. Try fishing off of the jetty near the beach, the pier north of the Sonoita Creek Visitor center, and near the Sonoita Creek inlet. Worms on the bottom are working well for channel cats. The lake is fair for catfish. Bluegill, and redears are being caught in the stick-ups and along the edge of the reeds. Mill worms are best bait. In shallow water try a worm on the bottom. Remember to use a small hook. Good for sunfish. Some crappies have been caught and fishing for this species has improved. There was reportedly a 3-pound crappie caught near the beach area. Try small chartreuse mini jigs with a clear bobber in the marina and at the mouth of Ash Canyon and Hangman’s coves. Few trout are being caught and fishing for this species has dropped off. Lake water levels are back up and there is water flowing over the spillway. Both boat launches are open. For more Lake information call Patagonia Lake State Park at (520) 287-6965.

Channel and flathead catfish are being caught on dough balls, shrimp, chicken livers, worms and bluegills.
