Fished off the first dock available in the Marina area. Fishing was tough caught two bass the biggest being about 8inch. Used RoBo worms and drop shot weight. Fellow fishermen caught around 8 smaller sized bass with NightCrawlers. They dont make it easy to park in that you can buy a pass an the lake area but must go in to town. Other than that it was a great day!

Bass are being caught off of the points back by Butcher Jones. I saw some boats out there pulling them in. I had some strikes with Spinner Baits and some good chases with crankbaits (could see the fish going after it) The fish are there just need to make sure your patience is as well.

BTW: The dead fish were caused from the cold front that came through last month. All of the dead fish were tilapia that could not handle the cold.

Great day for fishing, a little windy but no one was on the lake or the beaches. I headed down to the docks at Butcher Jones about 08:30 for a few hours of fishing. I didn't catch anything, but I had a few nibbles. I noticed that someone had caught 4 Yellow Bass, but had left them on their stringer. I saw it when I walked in and left it alone because I thought someone may have just excused themselves for a sec, but they were still there when I got back, so I let them go. Bad news is that Two were already dead and as I was releasing the the one of the two live ones, the last one died. Only one survivor because someone just left them there. The fishing seems to have picked up, from what others have said it was. Overall, Good Trip.

A few of us went out to Saguaro real late Saturday night, took the boat out to Butcher Jones and dropped a couple lines hoping to catch a cat, caught a snooze instead. Decided to get a head start on the bass fishermen and head back into one of the coves before dawn. Fish were real active, turned on the spotlight and watched a heck of a show. Just after dawn caught a couple 1+ pounders on a blue/silver kastmaster and the bite was on. The others were using crankbaits... when all was said and done we had netted 30+ LMs most of wich were caught within a one hour period on the cranks. With the one lure no sooner than we would get one out of the net someone had another one hooked.(gave the net a workout as well as us, can't forget to buy another before the next trip out since it now has a hole in it big enough for most fish to fall through..lol)The fish caught were from just under 1 lb to just over three... the majority being in the 1 1/2 - 2 lb range. Three fish over 3 lbs, the largest being 3 lbs, 7oz. With just the 20 we actually weighed we had caught 36+ lbs of fish. Lost two lures, one taking by a BIG carp, who broke the line just as we got him to the boat.. another was lost when this HUGE LM (I swear I have never seen a largemouth that big in my lifetime) broke my 15lb testline and stole my "magic lure" (it got hit everytime it touched the water (smaller size rattling crank, with a dark back and white belly) just as one of my partners was trying to get him in the net. Another surprise was what appeared to be a quite large channel cat that actually broke the hook off one of our new lures just as we were trying to net him. I am fairly new to this fishing stuff but was pretty surprised by the carp and cat biting on the lures. We had a blast, even though I wore a hole in the carpet by my seat on the boat from spinning around so many times to grab the net..lol. Though others in the same vacinity didn't seem to be doing as well. Right place, right time right bait and a whole lotta luck I guess, sure made up for all the bad days lately.

Saguaro lake received nutrient inflows from side tributaries during the major rainstorms. These added nutrients should equate to increased fish health this year, and hopefully, to some decent reproduction as well.

Canyon has been producing the behemoth bass so far this year, but Saguaro is typically a close second for the lunkers.

We have been on Saguaro several times a week for the last month, and our bite has remained somewhat consistent for the most part. We were out again today and only caught 8 bass which surprised me, but we had several big fish today. There are several good patterns on this lake right now. You can catch numbers of average bass in the backs of coves and pockets, there is also a decent reaction bite on the outside edge of grass, and there are a lot of bass still relating to outside rock. We did catch several big jig fish on a wall in the river about 6 weeks ago, but we are working other areas more recently. You can also catch quality fish in the ditches and edges of flats on a Carolina rig right now, and these fish are seemingly less pressured. If you like catching catfish, we have accidently hooked several 10-20 pound fish this month in 5-15' of water on various flats. Good luck....Joe azod.com

Lake level is 1,530 feet (99-percent full). Bass fishing is getting good. Fish are being caught are by drop shotting (tight lines) or with Senkos in 20-50 foot depths. Some anglers are trying imitation rainbow trout swim baits to hook a monster. Jigs are also working. Many anglers in the last week are reporting five to 15 fish days. Rainbow trout will be stocked for the last time this season next. Use Power Bait, corn, salmon eggs, and inline spinners like a Vibrex or Rooster Tail. Yellow bass can be caught jigging spoons (quarter-ounce KastMaster) or cut bait. Recent reports of yellows are being caught in the Butcher Jones Cove area. Another good area for yellows is near Ship Rock and the no wake buoys in the channel. Try to locate shad in 40-60 feet of water and jig through them. Catfishing is slow. Try stink baits, hotdogs or shrimp. There is a certified scale at the marina to get an official weight and still release your catch. Two witnesses are needed for the weight to be official.

Fishing the Salt River below Stewart Mountain dam. There is a island cut between two arms of the river, fished the point where the two arms of the river converge and pulled up 8 bullheads. Not very big but a consistant bite. Frickin beavers sent me home though, swiming in front of my fishing spot slapping there tails. Didn't know there was beavers in the salt.

Headed out late Friday night, was raining like mad by the time we got there. Used a variety of baits off the dock, not so much as a nibble. Went home wet and cold. Since Sunday was nice and sunny we tried a couple Urban lakes, Desert Breeze and Water Ranch with nightcrawlers, corn and various lures... again not a thing. So we went back to Saguaro from around 8pm - 12pm. Tried a little of everything, corn, worms, hotdogs, shrimp, powerbait, lures, etc. Hoping to catch something, anything. Three people, six poles, four hours.... boyfriend said he got a bite over by the boat dock, but that's it. Didn't have so much as a noticable nibble myself. :( I know we need the rain and in the end it will benefit us all, but I am really looking forward to nicer weather and catching some fish.

Fish seemed active, could hear and see them jumping from time to time, but they didn't want to eat.  Lake level is 1,525 feet (94-percent full). Bass fishing has picked up. Look for topwater eruptions of shad being chased in the evenings. Target these boils with topwater plugs and crankbaits. Most fish are being caught drop shotting (tight lines) or with Senkos in 10-25 foot depths during the day. Spinnerbaits were very effective last week also. Yellow bass can be caught jigging spoons or cut bait. Try to locate shad in 40-60 feet of water and jig through them. Catfishing is good at night. Try stink baits, hotdogs or shrimp. There are reports of large channel catfish 5-15 pounds being caught in the Mesquite and Bagley Flats areas.  Lake level is 1,525 feet (93-percent full). Bass fishing was very slow last week. High winds and rough waters prevailed most afternoons and nights last week. Fish have moved into the summer transition, going deeper during the day and feeding at dusk and dawn and at night. Look for topwater eruptions of shad being chased. Target these boils with topwater plugs and crankbaits. Some fish are also being caught drop shotting (tight lines) or with Senkos in 10-25 foot depths. Fishing off points and shelves in 20-30 feet of water can also be productive. Bass will move into the shallows at night to feed. Yellow bass can be caught jigging spoons or cut bait. Try to locate shad in 40-60 feet of water and jig through them. They are often found near Shiprock and where the “no wake” zone buoys area in the upper end of the lake. Catfishing is good at night. Try stink baits, hotdogs or shrimp. Reports of large channel catfish 5-15 pounds are being caught in Mesquite and Bagley Flats areas.  Lake level is 1,527 feet (92-percent full). Another small fish die-off was reported. Bass fishing was slow last week. Fish are starting to move into the summer transition, going deeper during the day and feeding at dusk and dawn and at night. Look for topwater eruptions of shad being chased. Target these boils with topwater plugs and crankbaits. Some fish are also being caught drop-shotting (tight lines) or with Senkos in 10-25 foot depths. Fishing off points and shelves in 20-30 feet of water can also be productive.

Bass fishing is good. One angler caught an eight pounder jigging near the grass at about sunset.

Lake level is 1,527 feet (97-percent full). Bass fishing is good. Fish are starting to move into the summer transition, going deeper during the day and feeding at dusk and dawn and at night. Look for topwater eruptions of shad being chased. Target these boils with topwater plugs and crankbaits. Fish are also being caught drop shotting (tight lines) or with Senkos in 10-25 foot depths. A good place to try right now is the Snags area. Fishing off points and shelves in 20-30 feet of water can also be productive. Yellow bass can be caught jigging spoons or cut bait. Try to locate shad in 40-60 feet of water and jig through them. They are often found near Shiprock and where the “no wake” zone buoys area in the upper end of the lake. Catfishing is improving. Try stink baits, hotdogs or shrimp. Reports of large channel catfish 5-15 pounds are being caught in Mesquite and Bagley Flats area. There is a certified scale at the marina to get an official weight and still release your catch. Two witnesses are needed for the weight to be official.

Lake level is 1,527 feet (97-percent full). Fishing has slowed down some: there was a partial fish kill here, mostly shad. However, two anglers report still finding large bedding bass: they caught one eight and one seven pounder on May 10, along with lots of three and four pounders. They added that during the pump-back times, it is possible to catch one bass after another near the dam. Two other anglers on May 1 reported catching 77 yellow bass in four hours in 25 feet of water in the middle of a cove using night crawlers. Fish are starting to move into the summer transition, going deeper during the day and feeding at dusk and dawn and at night. Look for topwater eruptions of shad being chased.
