Type
of Wildlife /
Type of Hunting: |
Rainbow Trout
This fish has silvery, very fine scales and a spotted body with a horizontal pink streak on the sides. Most trout are from 9 to 12 inches. These fish are not easily fooled. To successfully catch trout, cover the hook completely and use a clear, fine weight line. Powerbait, salmon eggs, worms and cheese are the most enticing baits. The legal limit is four fish of any size for licensed fishermen and two for children.
Channel Catfish
These fish have spines in the dorsal and pectoral fins and long, whiskery-looking barbels at the mouth. Their bodies are scaleless and their tails are deeply forked. The younger fish are silvery with black spots, while older ones are bluish-black with white bellies. These fish can weigh from 1 to 6 pounds. The legal limit is four fish of any size. To catch these, fish at night, dawn or dusk and use worms, liver, shrimp or hotdogs.
Sunfish
Sunfish have small mouths and short, flat bodies ranging from 4 to 8 inches. The legal limit is 10 fish of any size. These are easily caught using mealworms.
Largemouth Bass
Bass are known by the wide, dark mottled bar on the sides of the body. They tend to be dark green on top and white on the belly. The legal limit of bass is four, but lake biologists prefer these to be released, as the hardy nature of the species allows it to be caught many times. Bass are the only species in the lake with a size limit. They must be at least 13 inches before they can be kept. Bass feed predominantly on other fish, especially bluegill, but they can be caught on crank baits and worms.

| Went to the lake in the evening just about dusk. Haven't fished there in a while and were passing by so we decided to give it a shot. We had nightcrawlers, and liver in the ice chest from a trip to Bartlett over the weekend so we gave it a shot. I caught 3 very small yellows fishing nightcrawlers off the bottom, they were tearing the worms up but I was having a hard time setting the hook.. probably because they are so darned small. The fiance caught a sardine size yellow bass as well..lol. It was ok fishing but nothing to brag about. The best part of it was bringing in a nice fat carp on my daughter little pole, they are always fun but I prefer to catch fish I will actually eat. :)

| It is the warmwater sport-fish season now. Bass fishing is very good. Fish are averaging 1-3 pounds and can be caught on crankbaits and plastics and some on minnows. Bass were the most abundant species in a recent fish survey, with many over three pounds sampled with the largest about six pounds. Various types of plastic worms are working best. A 13-inch minimum length regulation for largemouth bass is in effect. There are plenty of bluegill and yellow bass that will bite mealworms and night crawlers. Channel catfish are starting to bite. The lake is producing some nice cats up to five pounds. Try hotdogs or shrimp. Fishing for carp is excellent: use dough bait or corn. Trout fishing is slowing down. Good bait choices are Power bait, salmon eggs or corn. You need a state fishing license – Class A (not an Urban License). A two-pole stamp can be used here. All questions regarding boating information can be answered by the Town Lake Operations Center (480) –350-8625.

| today me and my friend went up to tempe town and cot 3 stripers and 6 trout. The trout seem to be out about 15-20 feet from the shore and biting on corn. The stripers seem to be way out in the middle of the lake biting on nightcrawlers. i have used powerbait, and cot a few trout, but corn seems to work the best. My setup was a slipwight, swivel, hook. I also saw a guy catch a 4 pound largemouth. GREAT lake for all fish, especially TROUT!

| Stopped by the lake after work and threw one of my freshly replenished stock of Rattlin' Rapalas... 1st cast I had a 1lb bass... after 1/2 hour, I caught 2 more of the same size.. The traffic subsided due to the presidential debate and Kerrys rally going on at ASU, plus it was getting too dark, I went home a happy fisherman!

I decided to do some morning fishing before football started on Sunday morning and I figured Tempe Town Lake is close to home. From what I had been reading, it was well worth the try... Well, let me tell you.. I am usually a trout fisherman and a maybe considered a novice bass fisherman, though I have participated in a few bass tournaments at Lake Pleasant and fished down in Mexico for some nice bass... But after catching a few bass between 2 to 4 pounds that morning, I might have to make it a Sunday morning ritual to hit Tempe Town Lake before football!! LOL!!! (I do go to church services on Saturday nights...) That morning I tried a Rapala popper, making noises on the top water, but no hits. I met a nice guy (Doug) fishing the lake as well and he was fishing worms that morning. He wasn't getting any hits. I had heard on some mornings at the lake, that bass would bust on some shad occasionally at the lake so I decided to tie on a Rattlin Rapala... Once I did that, the excitement began!! I was using 4lb test which made it even funner!!! Being the trout fisherman, lighter line is better! Is that true for bass as well? I started by catching a few in the 1lb class and then a few in the 2lb class. I lost my Rapala fighting a fish that swam into some weeds, and the closest lure I could find in my little box of lures was a Rapala Shad rap, medium depth diver. I was casting it around a bit but no takers... I was thinking I need to stock up on some more Rattlin Rapalas, plus it was getting close to Football:thirty, if you know what I mean... Just then while talking to Doug and getting ready to leave, I felt a nice tug. thinking I might have hit a big pile of weeds, I raised my rod tip slowly and felt a few quick tugs. I set the hook and WHAM! A nice fight was on. It turned out to be a hefty 4lb bass... good strain on the 4lb test, huh?!? It was a nice topper to a beautiful morning!!!

An angler caught a new state record Pacu weighing 9.3 pounds here last week. This is a common aquaria fish native to South America. The old state record was 5.02 pounds. Fishing for largemouth bass is best in the early morning hours and late evening and getting better. Look for fish chasing shad and throw shad Rat -L-Traps, crawdad crankbaits or broken-back Rapalas into the boils. Bass are also being caught dragging plastic worms slowly along the ledges. Fish in the 1- to 3-pound range are fairly abundant with occasional catches in the 4- to 5-pound range being reported. A good spot for bass is under and around the Highway 202 overpass on the east side of the lake near the Indian Bend Wash. A 13-inch minimum length regulation for largemouth bass is in effect. There are plenty of bluegills and yellow bass; try using mealworms and night crawlers. Channel catfish are biting also. The lake is producing some nice cats up to 5 pounds. Try hotdogs or stink baits at night. Fishing for carp is excellent: use dough bait or corn. Try fishing in the shaded areas under bridges. You need a state fishing license – Class A (not an Urban License). A two-pole stamp can be used here. All questions regarding boating information can be answered by the Town Lake Operations Center (480) 350-8625.
